An unconventional gift...with a fresh voice and something to say

When you think of a bonus, you think of something extra...a special treat or a gift for a job well done. The "bonus" in this story was definitely a treat for a job well done...a ruthless killer who is an expert at torture, finds himself attached to a naked, about to be raped and eventually killed young woman who begs for him to save her. Having just completed a big job for his brother who runs this group of vicious Mexican cartel members, Kyle is allowed to take the beautiful and damaged Chloe home with him as a reward for his work.
What happens between these two was downright sexy and steamy but also showed quite a remarkably tender process of Kyle "re-training" Chloe from being an abused slave for her evil boss to a strong and confident woman.
I liked the relaxed conversational way the author told her story...we hear what's happening through each of the two lovers POVs but we also get a bit of their inside jokes and sense of humor. While some might be annoyed by the constant pointing out of "puns", I got a kick out of it... the story was so dark and at times so violent (especially the torture scenes) that it needed those moments of levity and joking to break up the intense and scary situations.
A pretty interesting and different type of kidnap and role reversal book that would appeal to readers who like mafia/mobsters/kidnap/dubious consent and gritty, unconventional love stories.

In no way a typical love story...

I received this book in exchange for an honest review..
From the opening page I was hooked, this is in no way a typical love story it was dark and dangerous and held me completely captivated!
Chloe a messed up drug courier finds herself mixed up with a Mexican drug cartel where she expects to die horribly and most likely painfully, she decides to top herself before letting anyone else use and abuse her.
Kyle half brother to the cartel leader and there enforcer a brutal man that does what needs to be done no matter the consequences. Kyle takes a liking to Chloe, he steps in and claims her as his BONUS. Not a conventional pairing two very messed up people both with a harsh and dangerous history. Can they help each other and overcome the B/S from their pasts?
Now the story is very gritty contains graphic violence and scorching sex scenes but this doesn't detract from an amazing story that I could not put down. The author created wonderful characters and situations that left little to the imagination. I really enjoyed the added humour, puns included.....
If you enjoy a darker gritty crime/romance story then this is a book for you!

Dark, Heart felt love story

While this is a love story, it is a dark one and not for everyone. The story involves an abused drug courier, Chloe, and an enforcer with the Mexican Cartel, Kyle. Both characters have a tortured past but are still strong and caring. Their relationship builds over the course of the story and you realize at the end that they are perfect for each other.
This is a solid story with drama, action and violence with a good mixture of erotica and eventually love. The characters are interesting and well developed. Kyle is a violent, controlled Alpha male that you like instantly. Chloe is funny, tough and feisty with a very vulnerable side. Overall this was a great read and I look forward to her next book.
