A nice return to Shadowrun fiction

For the Shadowrun fan without a gaming group, this is a fantastic reintroduction to the world of Shadowrun, and the things that may have occurred during a hiatus from the series. Easily approachable to new readers and hardcore fans alike, it's a worthy collection, perhaps even more so than the last run of novels.

The stories skip across all parts of the Awakened world and touch on characters in all sorts of positions, from the retired soldier to the crazy surgery addict, from Seattle to the deepest urban jungles of Africa. While not all stories needed to occur in the world of Shadowrun, they fit in pretty well, especially as a vehicle to introduce new technologies such as the wireless Matrix. And hey, who knew the otaku/technomancers would start finding their place in the world?

Bottom line: if you're a fan, you're going to like this. If you're curious about Shadowrun, it's not a bad selection to whet your appetite.

Its different

I have been a longtime Shadowrun novel fan having collected and read most of them (publications prior to 2005), and I was thrilled to see that they decided to publish some more stories in the Shadowrun world. I was a bit disappointed as it seems most of the writers have little past involvement with the Shadowrn world (i.e. game rules, etc) that would have given them more of a firmer grasp of the world. Some of the stories range from good to decent to bad. The biggest gripe I had was none of the Shadowrun vernacular or slang made its way in any of the stories. I understand these take place past 2052, but the writers seem to want to distance themselves from the Shadowrun of past. I am guessing the current Shadowrun games are maybe like this, but I liked it when the deckers were called deckers and you fragged this or drekked that. Oh well, to each their own. If you are new to Shadowrun and are curious I recommend trying to find "Shadowrun 07: Into the Shadows (v. 7)" which was a great braided novel that gave you a great variety of stories from various authors that tied into a weaved plot line or anything by Nigel Findley (may he rest in peace). See you in the shadow chummers.

Embracing Jesus and The Goddess:

This book is timely and its thoughts contained within are truly what this world is both searching for and lacking in. If we were willing, we could adapt this wisdom to their daily lives, the world would DEFINATELY be a wonderful place to live. Everyday of our lives are a learning experience and if we could come together, without judgement, we could appreciate what both Jesus and the Goddess have to share with us in our lives. As the author, I too found something lacking, and he so eloquently brought the both together. I share his vision of having both in my life. The hope of acceptance, love, and honor of having the Goddess and Jesus, both complimenting each other in our lives. This is a MUST read.

Exceptional

Comforting and inspiring, "Embracing Jesus and the Goddess" is one of the finest books on comparative religion ever written. Highly recommended for both Christians and Wiccans, as well as those who walk both paths and embrace both faiths.

Regarding one of the previous comments about abandoning what Christ said, I think that reviewer is confusing what some of Jesus' followers wrote and said instead of what Jesus himself said. I believe that reviewer needs to re-read the Gospels and pay close attention to the words of Jesus only.

If you walk a Christian/Wiccan path, this book is required. I found great peace in this book's pages...thank you Mr. McColman for your wise, healing words.

Good Introduction

As someone who was seeking a workable syncretization of Goddess Tradition and Christianity, I just had to have this book.

The author himself had some of the same concerns I had regarding Pagan male divinities, and their lack of depth. Jesus, to my mind, has no equal

in Paganism when it comes to Love, Compassion, and Wisdom. The Goddess within for example Wicca, has taken over these attributes, and has left the god as

a sort of help mate, with very little to do. That being said, the Author really stretches and misses some key points about Religion and the use of

Mythology within it. Another review has touched on this so I won't here. What I want to inform the prospective reader of is that this author has

converted to Christianity and has forsaken Paganism altogether. I find this just a little sad, because Paganism is losing a great scholar, more of which

it is in dire need.

Do the Crime, Do the Time!!!

This was an entertaining shorter book about a young lady who is sentenced to a very interesting punishment after being caught breaking and entering. Set slightly in the future after a great economic collapse, our h must endure humiliating punishments such as spankings, suppositories, enemas, gyno exams and obedience training. This was my first book by this author and I was not disappointed!!! She managed to tell a completely satisfying story in under 100 pages with out being over the top. Enjoy this quick afternoon read.

My Oh My!

I have read a number of Ms. Archer's medical play books and this one does not disappoint. The fabulous cover draws your eye and gives you just a hint of what to expect on in the inside. Although I am not a fan of dystopian stories, the author's light touch on the subject is just right. The descriptions of Maria's experience at the clinic are well written and the punishments inventive and very HOT!!

Altogether, an excellent evening's entertainment.

This book is everything you will need to know about bone broth. It is 350 pages of encouragement, inspiration, guidance, and love. SO many recipes not just for broth, but also for things you can make with the broth when it's finished. The pictures are very nice, and I am really looking forward to getting started with these authors as my guide. A must have for anyone who is thinking of trying bone broth for any reason!

I would like to thank Hay House for a free ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an open and honest review.

For those who follow my blogs and reviews, you will know I am indeed the sort who loves reconnecting to the older styles of healthier, wholefood cooking. This book does this with bone broth… while also bringing this useful and healthy ingredient into modern, everyday food prep.

I really asked to read this book as I am really interested in both bone and how to make it just right. For now I am more your stock sort of person, I am working my way up to trying some of the bone broth recipes shown. Before I read it, I thought it was just bones and marrow slowly cooked down over a few days turned into a yummy broth that was all wobbly when cold. Oh heck no! Bone broth is so much more! And NEUTRAL broth! I’d never heard of such a broth before and now want to try them to put in…. nearly everything! Can you tell this book has me inspired and wanting to get carried away in the kitchen?

The beauty of ‘Bone Broth Secrets’ is that it’s not just a book on how to make broth, it’s not just a cook book on how to incorporate bone broth into almost every meal… it is a book on healing through wholesome foods and positive mindsets and this makes it a well-balanced book for any home seeking healing and inner strength through what they eat.

The affirmations from Louise (mostly at the beginning of the book) help set a positive attitude throughout. This is followed through by introductions to nearly every recipe (who makes them, the story behind them, etc) and at the end of the book there are also stories of healing, a better introduction to the creators of the recipes, a fantastic ‘which herbs and spices to use’ and conversion tables… I mean wow! It covers it all. This is not just a cook book; this is a book on life and healing through eating better and thinking positive.

Although I wasn’t totally happy with the format and layout of the recipes, I feel this is more due to the fact I was reading an electronic version on my laptop. I feel the formatting would make far more sense in a paper version of the book. The recipes and instructions are also clear and easy to follow. Some are a little too ‘flowery’ for my liking… but work well with the overall feel of the book. I just happen to prefer ‘short, sharp and shiny’ in my cook books. This is not a major issue though!

Another thing to note about the recipes is they are not all for food and drink. Bone broth beauty products… seriously worth looking into for those who want to help nourish their outsides as well as their insides and use homemade products free of all those nasty chemicals added to a lot of shop sold beauty products.

I will say that the reason I can’t give the full five stars is down to my usual personal and family food intolerances and allergies. Yes, there are just a few recipes that I can’t use – or would have to heavily modify – before I could use them. This isn’t the fault of the book though; this is just what life is like for me, the reader. I am used to cook books being hit and miss and the only way I’d ever get a book entirely filled with hits is if I made one myself… not going to happen! ;-)

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes I would. It is a great book that covers pretty much everything you need to know on bone broths (plus vegan versions of broths and stock) and how to use them in daily cooking to improve your health.

Would I buy this book for myself? Possibly. This is a tough one as I’d really like to have a run through some of the recipes first before I would commit. I can, however, see myself getting an eBook version (if there is such a thing) to start with and if satisfied, then branch out and invest in a paper version. You see, as much as I love a good eBook, I am still very old style with my cookery books and prefer them in paper form. And buying a paper copy of ‘Bone Broth Secrets’ truly would be an investment: in health, well-being and vitality.

In summary: a very good holistic approach to bone broth and how to use it in every day (and nearly every meal) to help improve our health through better nutrients and essential minerals. If you want to learn more about both broths, this is the book for you.

Fantastic!

This is now my favorite book about bone broth! I have several others. Bone broth has made a big difference in my family's health, so it's helpful to have recipes to change things up a bit and keep it interesting. I didn't realize this book would have such great information on healing leaky gut, leaky brain and other health problems. I also like the stories. I am a major Louise Hay fan and I loved reading stories I hadn't heard about her before. It made me feel like I was stepping into her kitchen like an old friend.

The recipes are delicious. I have tried several of them. My husband and I even tried the cocktails and loved them! I've made one of the grain free breads and three of the desserts and all have been a hit with my family. My kids love the meatloaf cupcakes with kabocha squash topping (like frosting) and have already asked for them again. I think my favorite thing about this book is the sense of joy and love that I get when reading it. That part is quintessential Louise Hay. The pictures are beautiful and I just feel so nourished when I read it. Thank you Louise Hay and Heather Dane!

If you LOVE Gorillaz, you have to get this

This book includes the entire collection of Gorillaz artwork up to Demon Days, (so no Plastic Beach artwork), plus extra artwork created exclusively for the book. Besides the artwork, the book includes the mostly-fiction-semi-nonfiction-pseudo-biography of the Gorillaz starting at the very beginning of the band's coming together and going on to explain how the Gorillaz became "biggest virtual band in the world."

For huge fans, this is something I think you should definitely check out--especially if you like the animation and artwork side of the Gorillaz. If you only ever liked the music and never really dug the music videos or "band members," there isn't much here for you.

The story side of the book is conveyed mostly through "band interviews" and from the characters' perspective. It's not written like a novel. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlitt helped organize the material and storylines, but it was written by a third person under Albarn and Hewlitt's guidance. Through the story of the band members, reality sometimes peeks through in the form of interviews and name drops of artists who collaborated with Damon Albarn and tour dates and locations, etc.

The interaction and personalities of the "band members"--2D, Murdoc, Russel, and Noodle---are entertaining and often funny, and the convoluted plot is pretty great by itself. Also great is that every non-print Gorillaz "product"--music videos, mini cartoons, songs, albums, band interviews--are all referenced, so you can look them up online and watch/listen if you missed them before.

In one big, beautiful book. You get the low-down on the songs, the stories, the characters... But the best part of all is: THE ART. Jamie Hewett's art is just amazing, it radiates with zany energy. This book is a must-have for any Gorillaz fan.
Man, I remember the first time I saw a Gorillaz video. It was in a shopping mall, and my mom was checking out. They were playing Dare and Feel Good Inc. Being the young, innocent kid that I was, I felt somehow that I wasn't allowed to watch these weird, adult-looking videos. But I was entranced by them. Years later, I randomly found the videos again on the Tube, and I've been a fan ever since.

Excellent Supplement/Reference For Work/School

This is quite a bit smaller than than the other BarCharts I have purchased. It's about the size of a large index card, does not have binder holes, opens like a book, and is laminated. It is very nice. I do not have problems reading the text. A reading magnifier would help anyone who does.

I am a huge fan of the BarCharts and have many. This one is nicely laminated, fits well in a binder or just by itself. They are great for a quick reference, supplementing your textbooks, or having in your workplace for a quick look. I do realize that in a world of Google some might think these obsolete. For me nothing can beat something tangible. I have not been disappointed with any of the BarCharts that I have purchased.

Size of an index card.

I thought this would be much larger. It was only slightly bigger than an index card. The words are very tiny. The lamination is of strong quality, so that's a plus. Also the diagrams are very precise and simple to navigate. I just wanted it to be a full size diagram.

Bought for Anatomy class and very happy I did. It is very detailed and the photos and colors are vivid and labeled well. It is an excellent study tool. I 3-hole-punched mine so I could put it in a binder. That was very helpful to me. I would recommend this for anyone studying Anatomy, or even Physiology, especially for the price.

THE DIVINE COMEDY of Dante and Dor� becomes eminently accessible courtesy of Joseph Lanzara

Joseph Lanzara's stunning adaptation of Dante Alighieri's INFERNO is such a fine work of art, certainly one of the most sophisticated Graphic Novels to be released, may at first suggest the old classic comics of old - the way many youngster's took the short cut to 'reading' the books assigned in school. But this graphic novel is far more than that. Joseph Lanzara has taken on the challenge of making this immense work of literature accessible to everyone: his narrative is eloquent, precisely correct and has a keen sense of distillation of Dante's THE DIVINE COMEDY written in 1317 and moves Dante's journey with Virgil into the depths of the inferno and the heights of the heavens so that the 'story' flows comfortably and comprehensively well.

Lanzara has wisely elected to use the classic illustrations created by Gustave Dor�, the gifted French illustrator who provided the powerful imagery for Dante's work. As biographer's have written, `Gustave Dor�'s (1832-1883) illustrations and Dante's Divine Comedy have become so intimately connected that even today, nearly 150 years after their initial publication, the artist's rendering of the poet's text still determines our vision of the Commedia. Planned by Dor� as early as 1855, the Dante illustrations were the first in a series he referred to as the "chefs-d'oeuvre de la litt�rature." In addition to Dante, Dor�'s list of illustrated great works included Homer, Ossian, Byron, Goethe, Racine, and Corneille. The placement of Dante's Commedia at the top of this list reflects the poet's popularity within mainstream French culture by the 1850s. The 19th century saw an expansion of interest in Dante's work which resulted in numerous translations of the Commedia into French, critical studies, newspapers, and specialized journals, and over 200 works of painting and sculpture between 1800-1930. Dor�'s choice of Dante's Inferno as the first of his proposed series of illustrated masterpieces of literature reflects the extent to which Dante had attained popular appeal in France by the 1860s. Finding it difficult to secure a publisher willing to take on the expense of producing the expensive folio edition the artist envisioned, Dor� himself financed the publication of the first book of the series, Inferno, in 1861. The production was an immediate artistic and commercial success. Subsequently, Dor�'s Dante illustrations appeared in roughly 200 editions, with translations from the poet's original Italian available in multiple languages.'

And now Joseph Lanzara has added an entirely new dimension to the marriage of Dante and Dor�, and referencing the English translations of the novel by Henry Francis Cary (1814) and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1867) he has develop the enormous scope of this epic into a succinct form, joining a selection of Dor�'s drawings with the adjacent words of Dante and the result is a visually powerful and literarily precise condensation of a masterpiece. The printing quality is excellent and the design of the story with the images is sophisticated.

To Hell and Back Again

Dante's THE INFERNO is one of those pieces of literature that has had a massive impact upon Western culture and its impact can be seen and felt even today. However, it's also a work that intimidates many people. Using Gustave Dore's famous black and white illustrations of THE DIVINE COMEDY and some of the dialogue taken from the text, Joseph Lanzara has molded together a work that is both breathtaking and highly accessible to a modern audience. Lanzara has streamlined the narrative, but readers who are new to Dante or THE DIVINE COMEDY will come away with some of the key points of the story as well as an appreciation of the vivid imagery contained within Dante's famed story after reading this graphic novel. DANTE'S INFERNO: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL makes an excellent introduction to THE DIVINE COMEDY, but it is also a work that students and fans of the text will probably enjoy and appreciate.

Dante and Dore for the Mainstream

If anyone says that Joseph Lanzara is attempting to replace Dante Aleghieri's famous Inferno-- Dante's Inferno (The Divine Comedy, Volume 1, Hell)--I would have to say that this simply isn't true. Lanzara's comic book version of Dante's allegorical poem reminds me of the old Classics Illustrated Comics that I collected as a kid. Indeed, these whittled down, illustrated renditions of notable works of literature persuaded young and reluctant readers to savor mini-versions of great artistry and rather than deter them from exploring the real deal later on, abbreviated versions like Classics Illustrated act as burning embers do to eventually fan a lasting flame. My first reading experiences were sitting on the floor of my cousin's bedroom, going through his vast collection of Classics Illustrated Comics and vying with my brother and other cousins for which one he was going to allow me to take home and fully read. This competitive spirit fostered an entire lifetime of reading pleasure.

In this case, Lanzara is introducing his reader not only to the great Dante and to Virgil, his guide, but to the Gustave Dore drawings that epitomize this epic masterpiece. In a scant thirty-pages, Lanzara recreates the Inferno and takes you on a whirlwind tour of the beautiful art that quintessentially represents the piece with winged angels and the woebegone denizens that populate Dante's unique brand of hell.

Lanzara doesn't need to modernize his text. He sticks to Henry Francis Cary's translation, peppering the Dore etchings with famous words the evoke the major story line magnificently.

Bottom line? Joseph Lanzara takes a "classic" tale out of the old Classic Illustrated Comic Book series in his recreation of "Dante's Inferno." Illustrated by the great master engraver Gustave Dore, Lanzara cannot go wrong. He presents an abbreviated but thoroughly adequate introduction into the classic tale where Dante blasts the authorities of his day that should urge his readers on to exploring the masterpiece in the original format. Recommended.

Not for the beginner

As automata gos this is not my first choice. The paper is kind of slick and dos not glue well unless you use tacky Glue.
I have most of the automata books and have put together over 100 projects. I liked KARAKURI by Keisuke Saka and Paper Models That Move by Walter Ruffler and Paper Automata by Rob Ives the best and would start with any of these book first. After you get the hang of it then Amazing Automata Pirates or Dinosaurs can come next. These books are NOt for young children.
