Amazing.

I'd never heard of Stumpy Nubs before attending a woodworking show in September in Kansas City. I found his presentation to be the most interesting, entertaining and enjoyable of all those I attended. He actually brought his shop-made tools to the show and had them on display in the vendor marketplace. Seeing the tools in person only made Stumpy's ideas, and his skills, more impressive.

This book does an excellent job of describing 12 shop-made tools. Like most people who work wood I've knocked out a number of jigs over the years but Stumpy takes things to a level I'd never imagined. The amount of thought put into the details make his tools accurate and convenient. I think many readers will find at least one project (and quite probably more) they'll want to build.

Of course hearing Stumpy present his ideas in a live setting adds an element of humor and entertainment that no book could match. That's not a criticism of the book. It's an endorsement of attending one of his presentations.

Discovered Stumpy several months back on YouTube. Liked his fun approach and his ability to show you how-to for the novice without being too low or boring. Bought the book, just arrived today. Book is better than I anticipated. Not only was it a how-to do on making the machines he's covered on YouTube but he's included plans and measurements. Thx James!

This is a terrific book. While, I have numerous major power tools, I have gotten so much insight about these tools as well as inspiration to build my own. I think this is well worth the money!

What a Fun Book!

Going down my childhood memory lane was so much fun, thanks to this book. I grew up with many of the tv shows whose themes are in this book. I'd recommend it to help cure nostalgia if you are a child of the '50's, '60's or '70's.

Kindergarten-Grade 3-In their efforts to prevent the king from destroying the Ardet Forest, Valerio the dragon and Allegra the unicorn befriend Princess Arianna and teach her about its value. The princess, in turn, shows her father the "...peace, silence and beauty...within the darkness of the forest." He decrees that the remaining trees will be preserved, and happiness and peace reign once again. The delicate, vibrant watercolor paintings are reminiscent of classic fairy-tale picture books where knights, misty woods, and mythical creatures abound. Soft shades of green dominate each detailed illustration; vines twist around the dozens of smaller sketches of animals and plants bordering each double-page spread. This is an obvious parable that lacks the lilting tone of Cherry's The Great Kapok Tree (Harcourt, 1990) and is occasionally a bit heavy handed. On the whole, though, it is an enticing book that will please those looking for dragon and unicorn stories, as well as those on an ecological quest.?Beth Tegart, Oneida City Schools, NY

Interesting story, beautiful illustrations

At our library, I gather books for teachers to pick up and check out for use with their lesson plan subjects. I always pull Lynne Cherry's Kapok Tree for teachers who are teaching about rainforests. When I saw "The Dragon and the Unicorn," I knew I had to order it for the teachers and kids. I wasn't disappointed and don't think our library's patrons will be disappointed, either! The illustrations are not only rich and colorful, they're creative in their design and range. The plot moved at a good pace - not sluggish, nor too much detail, nor too much preachy "do this," "don't do that." Kids will like the gentle, but fiercely protective dragon and the wise, magical unicorn who he protects. Kids will also enjoy taking the journey with Arianna into the world in which the dragon, unicorn, and many other animals live, and where they are being threatened by Arianna's father's destruction of the forests. The resolution of the problem of the king's allowing the forest's destruction is satisfying without being too pat or easy.

I was so delighted to find this wonderful enviromental fairy tale with beautiful illustrations of brown people. It is such a relief and joy to encounter an author and illustrator whom recognizes that there are other marvelous colours that can be used when filling in the hues of the characters. The beautiful Arianna lead our family on a mystical journey through a medievel forest in danger, and we learned that the darkness of the forest was full of peace, silence and beauty. Thank you Lynne for letting young readers know that what is dark and brown and black is also beautiful.

Grade 10 Up—The 800-plus entries in this well-rounded volume cover the period from 1792 to 1815 and describe Napoleon's and France's lasting impact on the world. They range from expected topics like "Infantry"; "Madrid Uprising"; "Nelson, Horatio, First Viscount"; and "Quadruple Alliance" to material on authors, artists, composers, places, "Education (French)," "Luddites," "Neoclassicism," and "Slave Trade." The books include black-and-white maps and illustrations, glossaries of military and naval terms, 10 essays that summarize the entire period, and 18 primary-source documents. The set is well organized and easy to use; tables of contents and indexes appear in each volume, and each signed entry includes extensive see-also references and suggestions for further reading. A 44-page bibliography, unfortunately not divided by topic, completes the set. A number of dates in the chronology contradict those in the main text. For example, the chronology states that the siege of Pamplona began on June 30, 1813, whereas the entry says it began on June 25th of the same year. Still, this will be a valuable addition to the European history collections in large public libraries. The focus of this set is the years from 1792 to 1815, and as the subtitle implies, it covers the far-reaching effects and consequences of the Napoleonic era. There are more than 800 alphabetically arranged entries focusing on prominent figures, noteworthy battles, and political and social change. A detailed chronology begins the set, starting with the death of Holy Roman Emperor Leopold II and ending with the Second Treaty of Paris. Since military maneuvers are such an important part of the Napoleonic era, a helpful glossary of both military and naval terms is also included. Primary sources often conflict on the statistical information related to a given battle (soldiers involved, the killed and wounded, etc.), so entries rely on various sources from all over the world and in multiple languages. These sources are cited in the extensive further-reading lists placed at the end of each entry, after the generous list of see also references. A broad topic like Austrian army has 11 see also references and no less than 20 sources listed at its conclusion.

Ten "contextual essays," each approximately four to six pages in length, cover military operations, political ideology, literature, science, economy, and imperial expansion. Sixty-five helpful black-and-white maps are sprinkled throughout the volumes, some of them clearly delineating the expansion and contraction of the Napoleonic Empire. Most of the maps, however, are detailed depictions of battles, complete with terrain features, army formations, and troop placement and movement. Even important sea battles are not ignored, including ship movement and wind direction. Additional illustrations depict battles, while still others show important congresses, treaties, and personages.

A chronology and the glossaries of military and naval terms are repeated in each volume, as is the detailed index. Volume 3 contains a bibliography and 18 primary source documents.

Overall, this is a fantastic resource for anyone researching the period. It is straightforward and user-friendly enough to be helpful to the beginner, but the detail and extensive references will appeal to the more advanced and experienced researcher as well. This is a really cool Comic Book Studio.

From back cover - In 1976 he (Joe Kubert) opened the first and only school devoted to the art of cartoon graphics: The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, Inc. located in Dover, New Jersey.

Unfortunately Joe Kubert passed away in August 2012 but he leaves behind a legacy of great art.

I don't know if I should open this or keep it as a collectable. the "Studio" includes:
