Amen, Sister!

A well-structured, well laid out, well punctuated, easy on they eyes read. The author busts some of the common myths about what being a writer really is. I know—I am one. She has a nice personable style to her writing, like sitting in a coffeehouse with a friend who’s telling you the truth about that boyfriend (fear of writing) you think you’re not in love with.

As I read I’m getting a lot out of this book. For example the minimalistic formatting with bold where it needs to be proves to me that this author knows how to make a book “scannable.” Not an easy thing to do.

There’s a lot of tried and true advice as reminders in this book and any new author will find it helpful as they ramp up the courage to start writing, whether it’s for a living or not.

Favorite nugget: “You don’t have to be the ultimate expert before you start writing a book
because the process of writing a book is a journey toward expertise.” Amen, sister!

Not all fluff—some great actionable and outlined how-to advice in this book. I’m a big fan of how in ”how-to” books.

Managing Data Using Excel ... ... is a new book by Mark Gardener, published by Pelagic Publishing.* It is subtitled "Organising, summarising and visualising scientific data". Clearly the book is aimed at scientists, particularly those dealing with the analysis of observational data, but is it of value to a wider audience? Having worked through the book I would say that it is definitely worthwhile for many other groups, including those in engineering and other branches of science and technology, and also those in commercial and marketing work dealing with the analysis of numerical data of any kind. Aspects of the book that I found particularly useful were: * Detailed and clear descriptions of the use of pivot tables in the analysis and summary of numerical data of any kind (an area where I could certainly make more use of the features available in Excel) * Clearly laid out procedures for arranging, checking and exploring data. * Detailed procedures for display of data in a wide variety of graphs. * Detailed step-by step example spreadsheets available from the publisher's web-site. About the Author

Salem Kirban was an Arab-born believer and a Graduate of Girard College and Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Mary, have raised 5 children. He had authored more than 50 books including 666, 1000, Guide to Survival, and What in the World Will Happen Next? For many years he had been an investigative reporter, a war correspondent, and covered the Vietnam Conflict and the aftermath of the 6-Day War in both Israel and Jordan. Dr.�Kirban passed away in March 2010.

has not aged well with time

i bought this book new in the early 80's when i was first starting to read a litle horror. anson wrote "amityville" which i didn't think was all that great but i gave this one a try. first time around i liked it and found it spooky. ordered it a couple of months ago to revisit and that was not a good decision. the plot of the book is quite transparent, fully of gimmicks, and no depth to any of the characters. i made it have way thru and put it on the shelf. didn't pay much for it so it's a collectible

I bought this book because the man who wrote this, Jay Anson, also wrote the book amityville horror and it was a good book. It kepted me interested in it throughout the whole book. It was about the supernatural and I like that kind of stuff to read about. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the supernatural!

who ate my pie?

WHAT HAPPEND TO THESE GUYS? Seriously they used to sound like Judas Priest singing in Spanish but then they went all soft with this album. Their other 2 albums that I have rock and their titles are also about the devil so when I saw 666 I thought that it would rock as much as their earlier albums but I was wrong.

Most of the songs are mid paced except for their ballads and some of them have a poppy sound to them like 666 which is a total pop song, go figure. The only songs that I do like are the first one and the last one which is the only heavy song. The rest of the songs are okay sounding but they are forgetable and too soft for me. It's like they just got a bunch of B sides that weren't that good and put them all on one album.

The reason why I gave this cd 1 star is because I wanted an album to rock out to and this one doesn't deliver but it isn't a bad cd just don't get fooled by the title like I did. I would recommend this to people who like pop rock and I would recommend their other albums Pacto con el Diablo and Diabloicca to fans of power metal because those albums are face paced which will have you banging your head.

Wenzel's watercolor illustrations are vibrant and richly detailed with a nostalgic, old-fashioned quality. Michael Emberley's watercolor, cartoonlike pen-and-ink drawings in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Applewood, 1994) are amusing but crowd the pages. Of the two books, Wenzel's illustrations are a better fit for the text. While a tad too long for storytime, it's a solid representation of the tale.-M. W.

Love the story though

Wonderfully lucid guide to an exciting, always changing field!

Outstanding coverage of the most important aspects of Microbiology, which is mastered, will allow the reader to pursue advanced topics and read and understand original articles published in top peer-reviewed journals. Usually these books are prohibitively expensive but I purchased mine for 70% off. One of the best all-time deals. The pictures, graphs, charts and visual aids are terrific. My only wish is that the book came with a CD-Rom so that I can review physiology on my lap top. Nonetheless, there's a good reason this is such a popular book and it is worth getting the latest edition. (Unlike say math, there have been so many new startling empirical results given the latest technological innovations and methedological techniques that seem to emerge almost exponentially every few months, that having the latest edition in this field can make a huge difference. Things are somewhat different for sub-fields such as Bacteriology and Virology which are also rapidly changing, but these are sub-areas within Microbiology as a whole so that's why there are overall, ,more startling changes and an up=to-date textbook is important like this one).
